Campervan Mattress Foam: Measuring and Buying Guide
05 September 2026
A campervan mattress must fit a compact platform while leaving space for doors, storage and everyday movement. Careful planning is especially important where the sleeping area converts into seating.
Measure the usable platform
Measure the length and width at several points. Vehicle interiors are rarely perfectly square, so note wheel arches, side panels, hinges and furniture. Check the smallest usable dimension where walls taper.
Choose the finished thickness
Consider comfort, headroom, folded storage and the height of any seat base. Thicker is not automatically better if it obstructs cupboards or makes a converted seat impractical. Compare the stated foam type and intended use.
One piece or several sections?
A single rectangular piece is simple, but split sections can be easier to carry and may suit folding platforms. Record the dimensions and orientation of every section. Mark which edges meet and whether covers, zips or joins need to align.
Check access before ordering
Measure the vehicle doors and the route from the delivery point. Large foam pieces can be flexible, but covered or layered products may still be awkward to move.
Irregular shapes
Curves, tapers and cut-outs need more information than length and width. Contact the supplier before ordering and ask what template or drawing is required. Do not assume a rectangular online estimate covers complex cutting.
Final checks
- Use one measurement unit throughout.
- Confirm length, width and depth twice.
- List every separate section.
- State whether you need foam only or a covered product.
- Review the final custom specification and delivery charge.
